Our school prides itself in our support of its LGBT students and our tolerance of diversity in all of its forms. Time and again I have seen our students, faculty, and staff stand together to fight injustice. With all of this, it seems to mock our very sense of self to continue to financially support Chick-Fil-A when it so ardently insists on using that money to further causes which are unjust and intolerant.

Our community has voted in support of pro-LGBT legislation on the local level and voted against Amendment 1 on the state level. But this is not a political issue. We simply cannot tolerate intolerance on our campus. Chick-Fil-A is bankrolling discrimination, and we cannot help them do so and remain a campus proud in its diversity.

Future generations will look back at this as an important step towards the ideal that "all men are created equal". We must decide where they will find us when they do so.

Letter to

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Dr. Kenneth Peacock and the Appalachian State University community.

End our relationship with Chick-Fil-A

Our school prides itself in our support of its LGBT students and our tolerance of diversity in all of its forms. Time and again I have seen our students, faculty, and staff stand together to fight injustice. With all of this, it seems to mock our very sense of self to continue to financially support Chick-Fil-A when it so ardently insists on using that money to further causes which are unjust and intolerant.

In the understanding that Chick-fil-A has a contract with the school for its place in our cafeteria, I would not presume to demand we do anything in breach of such a contract. It is my belief we should let it be known, publicly and directly, that so long as Chick-fil-A continues to use their profits in support of anti-LGBT measures we will sever our relationship with them at the soonest opportunity.
