UWO Fall 2016 Grads Deserve Proper Commencement

UWO Fall 2016 Grads Deserve Proper Commencement

The Issue

December 17, 2016 was supposed to be a joyous day for over 1,100 graduates at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

However, as Winter Storm Bailey made her way through Wisconsin, officials at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh made a decision to cancel the Fall Commencement ceremony for the 1ST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY. The ceremony is not planned to be rescheduled.

Although some agree that this was a safe decision by the university, many others do not.  As far as I know, all other UW system universities had or are planning to have their ceremonies as planned this weekend including Eau Claire, Green Bay, Madison, Stevens Point, and Whitewater.

Regardless if you agree with the decision of not holding the ceremony due to weather, I hope that you will agree that the 1,100 students that were supposed to walk across the stage deserve their proper day in Kolf. A "special ceremony" at the Alumni Center or the chance to walk in the Spring ceremony is just not the same.

I urge you to sign this petition in hopes that the university will see this and reschedule the ceremony for these graduates for a weekend in January.
