As a deeply concerned citizen, my thoughts often linger on the safety of road users and pedestrians, especially in residential zones. Fascinated by life's mundane interactions, the repetitive hum of tires against asphalt acts as a reminder of our interconnectivity. Yet, the hidden danger of high-speed traffic lurking in our streets is not something we should ignore. For this reason, I implore all of you to support the Department of Infrastructure's 20mph project.

Introduced as an intersection of safety and technology, the 20mph project measures more than just the decrease in speed limits. It promises a considerable reduction in road collisions and fatalities, especially where the risks are highest - our homes, in and around our neighborhoods. In fact, research in the UK showed a significant drop in the number of accidents in residential areas when the speed limit was lowered to 20mph (Source: Bristol City Council's 20mph limit evaluation report).

I believe this initiative would not only soften the pace of life, but it would also bring about more safety and security in our residential areas. By ensuring the roads are safer for children playing, joggers getting in their morning run, or adults walking their dogs, we will cultivate stronger, safer communities.
