Speaking as a concerned taxpayer of Martin County, Florida, our hard-earned tax dollars are being funneled into the construction of a Brightline train station in downtown Stuart. The construction was aided through a deal worth $45 million made between Brightline and Martin County. The agreement demonstrated a lack of regard for those it impacted the most, the taxpayers. With this petition, we want to question this decision and highlight our concerns.

Financially supporting such a project without the explicit consent of the residents poses a significant conflict of interest. It takes resources that could be invested in local infrastructure, education, or health services, and instead directs them to a commercial entity. We question if the benefits promised through the project will manifest for the community at large, or mainly serve the private corporation while taxpayers foot the bill.
