The Issue

I bear witness to a significant chapter of our story being erased as the White House administration has decided to remove historic Black artifacts from the African American Museum. These are more than just figures or relics, they narrate the hard-fought journey of African American ancestors who have advocated freedom, making it deeply personal to me. The removal of part of my history has no bearing on the country's economic strength yet shakes the cultural foundations we have built over centuries. The artifacts in question are tangible reminders of our rich heritage, symbols of the courage and resilience of the African American community. The Institute of Museums and Library Services estimates that there are over 35,000 museums in the U.S., many of which dedicate their efforts to preserving the past. The African American Museum should continue to be one of them. This action undermines our ancestors’ fight for freedom and the significant part they played in shaping America as we know it today. The erasure further deepens the cultural gap, leaving a void that could potentially be filled with ignorance and misinformation. Let us join forces to contest this erasure, to affirm that our history matters; the struggles, victories, and lessons embedded in these artifacts should be preserved for generations to come. Sign this petition to challenge the removal of these critical pieces of our past.
