Challenge the Benton County Animal Shelter’s NEW 75 day euthanasia directive passed on Jan
The Issue
On January 16, 2025 during the Benton County Animal Shelter board meeting the director proposed to limit an animal’s stay at the shelter to 75 days. After 75 days, regardless of the amount of space that is still available, the animals will be euthanized. The board members passed this directive in a three to one vote. An addendum to allow an additional 15 days at the discretion of the director was included to allow for treatable medical conditions.
Prior to this new directive, the decision as to when to euthanize an animal was always made at the discretion of the shelter director. The director took into account negative behaviors and lack of kennel space to make these decisions. This new decree is unnecessary and cruel. Together we can make a difference and ensure that these animals are protected and valued to the best of our ability.
Please join me in challenging this unjust new policy and demand that it be repealed.
