I am an animal lover and a believer in their rights. It is disheartening to see how many cities have apartment complexes and communities that have rules against feeding or tending to local stray and feral cats. These rules are not only inhumane but also ineffective, as they do not solve the problem of the presence of these cats, who are protected by law from being relocated.

Animal cruelty is a real thing and punishable by law. Sometimes with felonies. Yet, these community policies indirectly contribute to breaking the law, with the local laws. Tenants who violate these rules by offering food to starving animals face eviction or foreclosure. This puts people in fear, many of them choosing to loose their homes while forcing them to witness the heartbreaking sight of cats and kittens starving to death.

It's important for us all to remember that not feeding these cats does nothing more than exacerbate their suffering without addressing the root cause of their presence in our communities.
