Challenge and Repeal the Restrictive SB3 Law Now

The Issue

My name is Sophia Boswell, and I am a proud, queer, multicultural student. Today, I write to you using this platform, because my own history, my identity, is being censored. SB3 law stands as an obstacle to comprehensive education, aiming to handicap our learning about race, sex, and history. It is a personal affront to those of us who value our diverse heritage.

A 2019 study conducted by the American Historical Association revealed that comprehensive education that includes race and sex-based topics results in more informed, empathetic adults (American Historical Association, 2019). If the goal of our educational system is to prepare us for the real, diverse world, SB3 law is a glaring contradiction to this mission.

Censorship of our history is a disservice to all students, reducing the richness of our shared human experiences to a single narrative. We must strive for an education system that encourages diversity of thought, promotes inclusivity, and imparts real, unfiltered knowledge.

If we allow this law to stand, we risk creating loop a generation unaware of the beautiful mosaic that our history truly is – full of diverse experiences, voices, and narratives not restricted by the constraints of narrow learning. I implore you to stand with me in opposition to this law, for the sake of the integrity of our education. Please sign this petition and urge lawmakers to repeal SB3 law. Together, we can stop the censorship of our history.
