May 1, 2018
Late last night, I received the following note. --- Dear Andrew Pope, Parliament is going to debate the petition you signed – “Allow Premier League and Championship football clubs to introduce safe standing”. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/207040 The debate is scheduled for 25 June 2018. Once the debate has happened, we’ll email you a video and transcript. Thanks, The Petitions team UK Government and Parliament --- This is a big achievement for all the fans across the country who want Safe Standing. So thanks for signing the local petition and if you did, thanks for signing the national petition. And people are still signing my local petition for St. Mary's Stadium. For more info, please see the Southampton Independents website and our Facebook page Southampton Independents. There is more information on there about Southampton City Council voting on safe standing, in response to my campaign. That will happen later this month. Hopefully my Southampton Independents colleague Denise Wyatt will be elected as another councillor for us, and if she is, she will second my motion. Please vote for Denise if you live in the Redbridge ward. And if you live in the Millbrook ward, please vote for Ed Edworthy. He also supports Safe Standing. I appeared on the Total Saints Podcast this week, to talk about Safe Standing. You can listen to the Podcast on Soundcloud. It is called Total Saints Podcast Episode 34. I hope you agree that this is not one of those petitions that die away. I still believe that it is not a question of if, but when, we get a safe standing section at St. Mary's. I am organising a demonstration of Rail Seats here in Southampton. Venue and date TBA. Please continue to promote the petition. Thanks! Councillor Andrew Pope Southampton Independents
