On 9 Jan 2022, Sh. Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India tweeted from his official twitter account mentioning “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, I am honoured to share that starting this year, 26th December shall be marked as ‘Veer Baal Diwas.’ This is a fitting tribute to the courage of the Sahibzades and their quest for justice.” “‘Veer Baal Diwas’ will be on the same day Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji attained martyrdom after being sealed alive in a wall. These two greats preferred death instead of deviating from the noble principles of Dharma.” “The bravery and ideals of Mata Gujri, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the 4 Sahibzades give strength to millions of people. They never bowed to injustice. They envisioned a world that is inclusive and harmonious. It is the need of the hour for more people to know about them.”
The name Veer Baal Divas is derived from ‘Bal Divas’ or ‘Children’s Day’ of 14 November, which is a day of celebration & jubilation for children on the occasion of the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime minister of India. Since, the connotation Veer Baal Divas is derived from Bal Divas, a day of celebration, it actually goes against the emotions of grief and condolence that are attached to the martyrdom of the young Chhote Sahibzade. .
Martyrdom day of Chotte Sahibzade is not a day of merriment and joy, it is the day of Shaheedi (Martyrdom) and offering prayers as a mark of respect, in condolence, to derive inspiration, for supreme sacrifice for human rights against persecution and oppression by oppressors, for all including children and elderly people. Despite being in the tender ages of 7 years and 9 years, both Sahibzade displayed an account of exemplary bravery, rarely possessed even by elder persons, which gave strength to millions of people, to follow in their footsteps.
It is petitioned to authorities to change the label of day from Veer Baal Divas to Martyrdom Day of Chotte Sahibzade of Guru Gobind Singh and nation wide holiday to be gazetted on this account should be so designated. From the day of directive, onwards, syllabus of school books in all language subjects over all India should incorporate a page describing history of this martyrdom so that the small physical age of the Sahibzade and such great unparalleled, courageous bravery and sacrifice inspires children and elders alike, to offer prayers on the day and follow their example, and not just create a festive atmosphere with dance and fun.
