Punish the murderer, not the animals. Please don't shut down Sanjay Gandhi Animal Centre.
The Issue
Dear Ma'am,
Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre has been in news recently after a female dog succumbed to the injuries that were caused to her by one of the employees working there. This incident which took place at the premises of SGACC is highly condemnable.
The person who did it deserves nothing less than life imprisonment but should this one incident be a reason to shut down the 40-year-old animal shelter which houses more than 5000 animals and has treated millions of animals and given them a healthy and happy life?
This is the only centre in Delhi which gives free treatment to animals: Be it dogs, cats, monkeys, cows, buffaloes, camels, peacocks and the list goes on...
This is the only centre which caters to injured and rescued animals round the clock and 365 days
This is one centre that has never stopped any volunteer or caregiver from roaming freely and taking pictures of the animals and the state in which they live in
The centre and its management have always stood for the welfare of animals hence they have never stopped people from giving their honest feedback and inputs. Maybe that is the reason why their own employee made the bold and brave step to become a whistleblower and report the most heinous incident to the public so that the guilty may be punished.
During Corona times when most of the shelters were shut down, SGACC took all animal cases: be it road accident , human cruelty, sickness or injury.
During the two covid waves and their respective lockdowns, the centre issued movement passes to hundreds of feeders and hence saved thousands of animals who would have died of hunger and thirst on the streets of Delhi
How can one incident be the reason for undermining all the good and valuable contributions the centre has done in the field of animal welfare for 40 long years?
This most valuable and indispensable animal shelter should not be shut down. If animals could speak they would have told how important this centre is to them.
It's their only hope when they are injured, sick and abandoned.........so do not take away this centre from them.....
And how can shutting down the centre bring justice to the dog who died at the centre? Rather it will do injustice to an infinite number of animals who will have nowhere to go once they meet with an accident, fall sick or are abandoned....
Justice for the victim dog can happen only when her murderer is punished severely. Punish the murderer by amending animal laws and making them stricter but for God's sake do not shut down SGACC.
