Starting this summer, student workers across campus will be facing new and unneccessary financial challenges. Departments across Ohio University are restructuring student jobs in ways that will make it more difficult for many students to afford increasing tuition and fees. The specifics are different from department to department, but the problem is generally the same.

Some student workers have already seen their hours cut in response to increases in the minimum wage. Other student workers like RAs will be expected to work more hours without any increase in pay. Many students who work more than one job on campus next year will be forced to quit all but one on-campus job and will have to look for employment off-campus. Unfortunately, numerous students will have to give up jobs that advance their career goals because they will have to choose another higher-paying job instead.

Millionaire administrators regularly get raises and bonuses that are larger than the annual salaries of some OU instructors. At the very least, students who work hard to pay for those bonuses should get raises too! Chair Anderson and the Board of Trustees -- do not approve any budget that increases costs for students without giving all student workers a raise!
