Safer cycling routes are key to connecting our communities and promoting Active Travel, supporting health and wellbeing whilst fighting climate change, reducing carbon, pollution and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Action needs to be taken to support safer cycling routes in Penparcau, Aberystwyth and the wider area if we are to promote and change the way we travel. This has been highlighted by the recent events (COVID 19) which has led to more families cycling and walking in the wider Aberystwyth area. An important, yet straightforward first step would be to link up existing cycle paths:

The Rheidol Trail and Ystwyth Trail together create safe and simple routes around Aberystwyth. We would like to see them linked across Penparcau. This would connect local communities such as Llanbadarn, Penparcau, Rhydyfelin and Llanfarian and create more cycling routes to support Active Travel, tourism and create safe sustainable routes for all. We would also like to see measures along the A487 to protect cyclists on their way from Penparcau through Trefechan into Aberystwyth, this would further develop a network of safe cycling routes, promoting a more environmentally friendly and healthier way of getting around our local area and connects communities in Ceredigion.

This petition will be presented to Ceredigion County Council and Welsh Government to show support for a cycle path to link the Rheidol and Ystwyth Cycle Trails across Penparcau.
