Extend the Water Disconnection Moratorium
The Issue
On September 1, CEO Thurmond plans to end the Water Disconnection Moratorium.
The result? Thousands of people in Dekalb will be forced to agree to unaffordable payment plans or live without water. Access to water is a human right that is only further magnified by COVID-19.
The Moratorium was put into place in 2016 due to the County’s self-admitted billing errors. While progress has been made by the County in the last five years there is still much work to do on billing issues that could last beyond the pandemic.
Now, it’s up to us to turn up the pressure on CEO Thurmond to:
- Extend the Water Disconnection Moratorium
- Implement a Tiered Water Affordability Plan Prior to Resuming Disconnects
Extending the Moratorium will save lives.
A Tiered Water Affordability Plan will give residents the opportunity to rise above water debt rather than drown in it.
Dekalb has the power to protect residents from the lasting impacts of unaffordable water. Join us in demanding the County takes action NOW!
