This petition will be handed in to The CEO of Facebook Africa on Thursday 4th November 2020 & will state the following:-

1. We have been using Facebook as a social platform for many years.

2. At the time of joining Facebook, it promised to be "Free, and Always Will Be".  We understood this as being "Free to Use", and also "Free from censorship"

3. For many years, right up to 2016, Facebook was indeed Free from Censorship, and its support for Free Speech was most welcomed.

4. We gave up all other sources and Facebook became our primary source for communicating ideas, questions, narratives, conspiracy theories, fact sourcing and more.

5. We did this because Facebook promised to always be free.

6. When Facebook Africa opened, we saw a marked increase in censorship.  We got banned and/or prevented from posting, on what seems to be, a whim.

7. You lured us away from other platforms and we became devoted to Facebook - so much so that those platforms became dormant - you owe us the original service.

8. We need to be able to speak freely, without prejudice, even if we are wrong.  When you place an advisory from Poynter Institute it should be limited only to PROVEN misinformation, not guesswork informed by agenda based politics.

There should also be a facility for reporting bad fact & bot checkers.

Deadline for petition: Thursday, 05 November, 2020.
