People in Central West NSW, the electorate of Calare, are deeply concerned about the ongoing conflict and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. We consider the continued inaction of our elected officials = to supporting Israel’s acts of genocide. 

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that since October 8, 202; 26,422 Palestinians have been killed, 1.7 million are now homeless, 65087 Palestinians have been injured, hospitals are only ‘partially functioning’. With insufficient aid entering Gaza it is estimated that 2.2 million people are at imminent risk of famine.

The actions of the US-backed Israeli government have been described as genocide, human rights violations, and war crimes by the International Court for Justice (ICJ). Since the court’s finding this month, the situation in Gaza has worsened. Israel has continued unabated in their military attacks, while also restricting the entry of vital aid. On 28 January, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said that ‘Gaza’s needs have never been higher’. Despite this Australia has frozen funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA).

We are calling on our Federal MP Andrew Gee for Calare to use his influence and demand humanitarian action from our elected officials. We urge our MP to not only listen but to act upon the voices of his electorate who stand against these atrocities. 

We demand our elected representatives take the following demands to the Australia Government:

• Secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza!
• Immediately reinstates funding for UNRWA!
• Issues a public statement of support for the ICJ’s authority, its ruling and the obligations set out for Australia as party to the Genocide Convention.
• Remove barriers and assist in the unfettered access to humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
