Richard Atkins to resign from Central Unified Board of Trustees

Richard Atkins to resign from Central Unified Board of Trustees
The Issue
Central Unified School Board Trustee member Richard Atkins is supposed to represent one of the most diverse school districts in California. Still, on a Facebook post to his account on Saturday 20th, 2020, Atkins made racists comments toward the BLM Movement and the POC community. He stated, "If you don't love the country you live in, then go back to that country, you or your ancestors came from." How is this man supposed to represent the Central Unified motto of 'Every Student, Every Classroom, Every Day' when he has shown the community he does not stand for every student.
Atkins is supposed to represent Area 4 within the Central Unified School District, which is 48% Latinx, 19% Asian, 7% Black, and 15-30% immigrant. He is unable to represent the community if he does not represent every one of his constituents. Hence we are calling for the resignation of Richard Atkins from Central Unified School Board of Trustees.
