If half of you who signed can get one more person to sign this petition, then we will make it to 5,000 signatures soon. The renaming committee recently said they would consider the signatures from this survey as evidence for support.
Sikh Punjabi students were verbally assaulted at the last community input session for supporting the name change. They were told to go back to their country and some were made fun of for wearing turbans. Central Unified did nothing to address this. Please remember that CU allowed two parents to tear down Malachi's approved poster last year.
The board president, Richard Solis rsolis@centralunified.org (559)400-3754, proposed that only the Polk name, Kearney (a local racist), and the Native American logo be considered for change. He did not include the pioneers mascot, T. Roosevelt, J. Madison, and W. McKinley for consideration for change. He said that he wanted to give a win to those who oppose the name and mascot changes (he gave a bigger win to adults who bully children of color than to the children who are negatively impacted by these inappropriate school names and mascots). He also wants to implement a 15-year moratorium on school name and mascot changes.
If you'd like to support more, please contact Richard Solis and tell him how you feel about who he is pandering to.
Thanks for your continuous support.
