Stop direct waste disposal in Yamuna River

Stop direct waste disposal in Yamuna River
Why this petition matters
Yamuna was classified as "clear blue" in 1909 but is now degraded to the dirtiest of all rivers in India especially near the NCR (National Capital Region). About 57 million people depend on it and nearly accounts for more than 70% of Delhi’s water supplies. The alluvial plains of Yamuna banks makes it one of the most fertile plains in the subcontinent. The religious significance of this river is not lost on anyone.
The industries of New Delhi dumps 58% of their waste in this holy river making them the major cause of pollution. Much of this is untreated even after several laws have been passed to check such moves. This is primarily due to red-tapism, corruption and lack-lustre laws which do not hold anyone accountable and are often not strict enough. We need stricter laws, complete waste monitoring of all set-up industries set up on the banks of Yamuna and heavy penalty in cases of wilful or ignorant negligence. Tackling these industries and making them accountable is the first step to save Yamuna.
It is time now to stop the greedy corporates and industries for dropping their waste untreated into this dying river. We request you to sign this petition and help save Yamuna. We don't have to go to Paris or London to click amazing pictures on the banks of rivers when we ourselves were blessed with Mother Nature.
