Central Dog Register

The Issue

To comply with the law, and stay responsible, dog owners in the UK register  our pets through a chip database.  We do so in the belief that if the unthinkable happens we will be reunited with our best friends.  What isn’t made clear is that there are more than a dozen databases in the UK and they aren’t linked!  It is down to nothing more than luck whether the information on your pet is held on the database accessed by the scanning vet!  This makes the chip in our pet less effective than their name tag.

The average fine for not having our four legged friends chipped is £500 and at an average cost of £20, with subsequent charges for changes of address or ownership, what we are paying that money for?

This petition is to request the creation of a central database.  A database where each and every dog’s details are accessible.  One where no matter which veterinary practice our pets are taken to their details can be found.  This is the only way our lost, injured or stolen dogs will get back to us - or at least it increases the chances dramatically.

Thank you.
