CDC recommendations endanger Nurses essential to fighting the COVID-19 for all Americans
The Issue
American Nurses are on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 virus for the good of all of us. They are putting their lives and their family’s lives on the line to fight for us.
The Centers for Disease Control has just issued new guidelines stating that nurses who have been exposed to the virus may continue to work with patients. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says nurses can use bandanas and scarves as makeshift masks when caring for COVID-19 patients — which are NOT sufficient to protect them from COVID-19 patients. Those Nurses will have to report to the battlefield knowing they are not protected from acquiring the virus.
To issue guidance that Healthcare Workers on the front lines fighting COVID-19 may employ the use of homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for the care of patients with COVID-19 is an insult to those people you are advising. N95 masks are required to prevent transmission and bandanas are in no way comparable. Yes, it is well known there is a serious shortage of N95 masks. But the issuance of this guidance could lead organizations to place Nurses in precarious positions while referencing this guidance.
The CDC is allowing and expecting Nurses to work while knowingly exposing themselves to a potentially deadly virus, not to mention allowing them to risk bringing it home to their families.
I think we all agree these Nurses on the front line absolutely DESERVE the best protection possible not only for the protection of their own health, but for all Americans relying on their health and safety.
Sign this petition to let the CDC know this is NOT ACCEPTABLE and Nurses on the front line DESERVE BETTER!
