Why this petition matters

Started by Celtic Petition

We believe that the fans of Celtic FC are currently being failed by the club's leadership.

During the current season we have seen disastrous results on the pitch - with the club:

  • Exiting the Champions League at the qualifying stage in a home defeat to Ferencvaros
  • Exiting the Europa League in the group stage, having won no games and suffering back to back 4-1 defeats, home and away, to Sparta Prague
  • Trailing 11 points in the Scottish Premiership, having lost to 2-0 at home to Rangers and failing to register a single shot on target
  • Exiting the Scottish League Cup in a 2-0 defeat to Ross County at Celtic Park

The club's chances of securing a historic 10th Scottish Premiership title in a row now hang in the balance. As fan's discontent at this situation has grown both the manager and club sources have chosen to respond by suggesting that fans are 'entitled' for expressing their concern.

Most recently sources have briefed the press that the majority shareholder Dermot Desmond will refuse to change course so as not to bow to "a bunch of fans with an enormous sense of entitlement".

Even though they knew they would likely be unable to attend games due to the pandemic, Celtic fans turned out in record numbers to buy season tickets and club merchandise. Many did so in the face of unprecedented personal financial hardship. They did this because they recognised the difficulty of the current circumstances and wanted to do everything possible to support the club.

Those fans deserve to be shown the respect of the stewards of the club by way of engagement and dialogue, not be subject to hostile faceless briefings in the media.

We believe that finding ourselves in this situation, having been in a position of historical strength after the liquidation of major rivals Rangers FC, is unacceptable.

We call on Peter Lawwell (CEO), Dermot Desmond (Majority Shareholder) and all other members of the board of Celtic FC PLC to:

  1. Immediately begin the process to bring in a new management team for the first team squad
  2. Publicly address the comments to the press about the club leadership's attitude towards the supporters
  3. Begin preparations for a professional and competitive process to see a new CEO in place by the end of the current season
  4. Open up further outlets for supporters to communicate their concerns to the club whilst fans remain unable to attend Scottish football stadiums due to the Covid-19 pandemic
  5. Commit to ongoing engagement with supporters to completely reform the footballing operation at the club so that success in the future can be effectively built upon
