As the new year has started, a new cellphone policy has been put into place stating that students may not have their cellphones during the school day at any point from beginning to end. This includes lunch and time in the hallway. While this law could be justified during instructional time, not having a phone at all during the day could be considered dangerous. Taking away cell phones from students means no communication with anyone outside of the school day. Sometimes messages cannot be sent or received from the front office. This petition is not meant to be harmful but to show that students don’t need to have their phones away at all times. The point of this petition is to recognize that the law which has been passed is understandable for class time, but is not justifiable during lunch periods or hallways.
