Celebrate World Oceans Day and Make the Ocean Cleaner June 8, 2026

The Issue

Every year, 8-12 million metric tons of plastic and waste are thrown into the ocean, resulting in mass pollution.  Climate change is also affecting our oceans, making them more acidic, with less oxygen. This can lead to possible extinctions of many marine species. Ocean endangerment also affects humans as changes in temperature create harmful bacteria that can lead to disease and contaminated seafood. The amount of pollution in our waters is making it dangerous for both humans and marine animals to swim safely.  As global sea levels rise, coastal ecosystems and coral reefs are at risk.

Join our commitment to making the oceans cleaner and safe for all living things by taking this pledge:

I pledge to celebrate World Oceans Day by:

  • Being mindful of my trash and disposing of it properly.
  • Reusing plastics and limiting use of single-use plastics.
  • Purchasing Certified Sustainable Seafood.
  • Converting to electric transportation when possible to reduce use of fossil fuels.
  • Participate in at least one beach clean-up a year.
