The Issue

### Personal Story and Petition Purpose
I am a resident of Torrance, deeply invested in the well-being and safety of our community, primarily because my young child attends an Elementary school within the Torrance Unified School District. I saw first hand, and confirmed with the gardener, that glyphosate-based herbicides are being used on school grounds, near windows and entryways, and close to the playground, and district-managed properties. This concern has prompted me to initiate this petition to ensure a safer environment for all students in our district.

### Why This Matters Now
Recent scientific studies have raised significant concerns regarding the safety of glyphosate, particularly its effects on children. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, glyphosate has been classified as a "probable human carcinogen" since 2015. Furthermore, the American Academy of Pediatrics has highlighted the special vulnerability of children to pesticides, citing their ongoing development as a crucial factor. School started and now all these children will walk through this toxin, pick it up on their shoes, and carry it onto the playground, the classroom, and back home to our houses. I can't stop everyone from using this, but I am going to do what I can and will make sure my child is not going to school shortly after this toxin is sprayed.

### The Change We Seek
We urge the Torrance Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent to take immediate action by ceasing the use of glyphosate-based herbicides across ALL school campuses and district-managed areas. We propose replacing these harmful chemicals with safer, non-chemical alternatives for weed control. Techniques such as manual removal, organic mulching, and other environmentally friendly solutions can effectively manage weeds without compromising the health of our children.

### A Call to Action for the Community
We ask for the support of parents, school staff, and concerned community members in joining this effort to protect our children from unnecessary exposure to potentially harmful substances. By signing this petition, you will help press for a healthier school environment where our students can learn and grow without the looming risk posed by toxic herbicides.

### Let's Act Now
Together, we have the power to effect positive change for our children's future. Let's prioritize their health and safety by urging school officials to make responsible choices in maintaining our school grounds. Please sign this petition to show your support for a safer, glyphosate-free Torrance Unified School District.
