I wanted to share an exciting update on my ask to stop the use of round-up in and around our schools - our petition is nearing 500 signatures and has received nearly $300 in contributions to help spread the word. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has signed, shared, or reached out with encouragement.
After ongoing outreach and collaboration, I now have confirmation from two leaders within Torrance Unified School District that the use of Round-Up will be stopped immediately while safer alternatives are reviewed - I also have the support from a third leader.
- One is a TUSD Board Member
- Another is the School Board President
- And the third is the Chief Business Officer
This is a meaningful step forward, and I truly appreciate TUSD’s willingness to engage in open dialogue and explore safer options for our children and our community. If you are part of TUSD, thank you.
That said, I don’t see this as a victory just yet. I’ve learned that some “alternative” products can still be harmful (remember the BPA replacement debate?). Other South Bay districts have successfully used simple vinegar-and-soap mixtures for weed control, and I’m hopeful Torrance will follow that example.
I’ll also be speaking with a local news outlet on Monday, and if the interview airs, I’ll share where you can watch or read it.
To everyone who has supported this - thank you. My goal was never to turn this into a battleground as I am coming from a place of care and commitment. I’m simply a well-informed, concerned, and tenacious mom who’s deeply invested in creating a safer environment for all our kids. Please continue to sign and share the petition so the message keeps growing.
