I've dedicated my entire life to rescuing and saving animals from the negligent and abusive environments. I’ve encountered distressing scenes where creatures in need have lost their voices under the cloak of indifference. Yet, I've never seen anything as disheartening as the situation at Johnny G Economedes High School.

This high school supports to educate young minds, yet what we're witnessing is an unfathomable disregard for the well-being of animals. Reports of neglect and abuse spring up far too often, constantly reinforcing the urgent need for drastic intervention.

Animal cruelty is not just unethical but also illegal under Texas's animal cruelty laws (Tex. Pen. Code § 42.09; § 42.092), which criminalize deliberate acts of cruelty and failure to provide proper care for animals. A violation of these laws could result in severe penalties, such as imprisonment and fines.

This high school, which should stand as a beacon of knowledge and empathy, is currently a battleground for these defenseless creatures. Surrounded by young pupils, they face unchecked suffering day after day, struggling for the most basic of their rights. Lives that are meant to be nurtured and protected are subjected to irrational biases and blatant cruelties.

We must act now to rectify this grave situation.
