I’ve been leaving posting this update some time to give Will Griffith (Head of Public Realm) Lancaster City Council time to respond to an email we (the residents) sent almost 2 weeks ago. Despite the promise of CCTV given to us in writing (that should have been installed within the first 2 weeks of September) back word has now been given.
I have been informed that less calls to the police have been logged since removing the stones, so they no longer see need for installation of CCTV and therefore believe our problem now does not exist.
A couple of points I’d like to make in response to this should anyone be able to bring this to the councils attention -
1. The reason there have been less calls is because residents believed that the problem was being dealt with, that they had been heard. They have not wanted to block up lines for other people that need to get through to the emergency services.
2. Yes the stones have been removed, but the problem we have existed prior to these being installed and only made a unbearable situation worse.
3. Yes things have been a little quieter due to a couple of factors, cold wet weather and the kids being back at school.
So should we wait until next spring/summer when it all kicks off again? I know from living within the Poulton community there are many many residents that are suffering massively with their mental health because of these issues. Elderly and younger residents that feel intimidated and that are indeed being targeted.
We will continue to work towards what we were promised to create a safer happier community to live in. Any support or advice in this matter would be hugely appreciated. You can email us directly on poultonresidentsmorecambe@gmail.com
Much love
