Cherokee County School’s have allowed Confederate Flags to be shown on school campus without even acknowledging the history of the flag itself. The Confederate Flag stands for “A White Man’s Flag”. William Tappan Thompson wrote why the flag represents confederacy as, “... we are fighting to maintain the heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race: a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause.” Cherokee County schools allow Confederate Flags on School Campuses, and I believe that we should make the change to ban all of them. Our schools are supposed to make our student feel comfortable and with a flag with such a racist background allowed on school property won’t help our students feel comfortable and safe!
