Keep James Simons Elementary a Partial Magnet School

Keep James Simons Elementary a Partial Magnet School
The Issue
The Charleston County School District Board of Trustees is voting to convert James Simons from partial magnet to constituent magnet
What this means:
Partial magnet James Simons: Anyone in the county can apply for PreK-8, but if you live in the neighborhood school zone then your child does not need to apply to attend for grades K-8.
Constituent magnet James Simons: Only students living downtown in D20 would be able to apply, no students could simply walk into the school because it is their neighborhood school.
What we want: To remain as a partial magnet Montessori school.
What we believe: That changing to constituent magnet will decrease the racial and economic diversity of the school and remove an important option for families that are committed to a downtown Montessori school but do not necessarily live downtown.
