Whether many they accept it or not they consider their child their property and a way to establish newer ties in their society (samaj) through arranged marriage. In their old age, their social status and social life hinges on the in-laws. Even if they were considerate of their children's wishes and happiness, there is so much pressure that only rare ones would look out of their child's happiness. I have heard things like following being said. To girl who loves someone. 'You guys can go abroad and do whatever you want but not here'.

They are also excessively focused on 'security' as the main criteria for marriage and not love. They want to look at degrees, earnings, family stature and not really the personal qualities of the other person. Love on the other hand looks at the personal qualities first.

As we know, a majority of Indian schools and parents are against dating. Children are normally brought up in a manner that avoids them to be in a relationships. Although, there are a few supportive parents who encourage their children to talk to them about personal matters in a very friendly way. If Indian/CBSE schools introduce prom, it'd not only allow kids to freely date other people but also to attain independence. Pls share this petition so that more and more parents see this and understand that they should be cool with kids getting in relationships, this would also teach children the value of respecting one another in a relationship.
