Remove from CBS Los Angeles for supporting #TigrayGenocide
is a local news correspondent at CBS Los Angeles who is a part of the Tigrayan diaspora, an ethnic group found in the northern most region of Ethiopia.
Tigray has been under siege by the Ethiopian government since November 2020. Nearly a year has passed with the conflict marked by multiple massacres, acts of sexual violence and denial of basic human aid into the region. As a result, there have been thousands of avoidable deaths and famine threatens to kill many, many more.
previously called upon the Ethiopian government to end this behavior towards Tigray and used her role to bring light to the issue. Her mother returned safely from the conflict zone and her activism completely changed.
As of the past two months, she has changed track completely going from denouncing the government's role in actively committing genocide to completely denying the genocide and attacking members of the diaspora who have repeatedly tried to speak with her and provide evidence as to how things are happening.
She has denied even listening to the countless pieces of evidence, reports and more brought to her attention and has used her platform to elevate the voices of those who support what is happening in Tigray (see: genocide).
This sets a dangerous precedent and we call on CBS Los Angeles to take decisive action with regards to her blatant misuse of her platform.
The United States has in countless instances called on the Ethiopian government to end the conflict. CNN has reported in multiple instances that the tragedies such as the Axum massacre did occur, that the Ethiopian government has used Ethiopian Airlines to smuggle weapons, and that Eritrea has participated in the conflict despite their complete denial of each of these events.
CBS Los Angeles, please use this opportunity to show that making baseless claims is not true reporting and that doing so has consequences.
