"The Briefcase" exploits those experiencing economic hardship. From the opening moments, it's clear that the money you are "offering" is not insignificant to these families -- the windfall is a godsend to those out of work, with insurmountable medical bills, or trying to support a large family on a part time salary.

But rather than just give the money to them to help them, you exploit their kind hearts and ask them to do what we never ask of the well-off -- testing their morals and their kindness by asking them to think about another family in financial distress. You place another family's well being in their hands, knowing the stress they are under. They are encouraged to think of themselves as "greedy" if they choose to keep the money -- money that might save them from financial ruin.

This show is ethically and morally problematic. People should not be placed into Hobson's Choices for the entertainment of others. Deep moral and ethical crises are not sporting events. Families that must choose between food, medicine, and helping others in similarly desperate straights are not entertainment objects. They are suffering citizens in need.

This is poverty porn at its worse. You are asking your viewers to be entertained by the hardships of others. It's disgusting. It's vile. And it's wrong.
