Alice Snaden started this petition to CBC/Radio Canada and

The revolution is being televised; let our television programming reflect the revolution.

In a society where we witness the deaths of black, brown, and indigenous peoples on our televisions daily, it is vital to the health of our society and the protection of those bodies that we see their lives reflected on our television programs.

We need our National Broadcasters to lead by example and push themselves on their commitment to diverse stories.

After the CBC’s latest press release with their 2020/2021 slated programming we were able to see that out of 12 scripted CBC originals, 7 of them are led by all white key creatives, 3 are led by key creatives from diverse backgrounds and 2 are ¾ white with one lead performer of colour. That is just not enough and our country needs more.

The CBC committed in 2019 to having at least one person from a diverse background in the role of a key creative in every scripted and factual commissioned program by 2025. In order to see the CBC honour their commitment we call on them to reach the halfway point of their goal by 2021.

This is an opportunity for our national broadcasters to listen to what our country is calling out for. Representation matters and what you put on TV matters.

Sincerely concerned citizens.
