CBC Should Support Team Canada & Provide A Live Stream of Goalball at Rio 2016 Paralympics

The Issue

The CBC has an opportunity to support Team Canada, The Paralympic Movement in Canada and thousands of blind & visually impaired children all across Canada by answering this simple request & showing these children that they can absolutely still have a future in sport that will not be hindered by their disability.

CBC's coverage of the Paralympic Games is of the highest quality but the quantity is often lacking.  the CBC just completed two weeks of terrific coverage at the Olympic Games that ran all day & night on their main network as well as partner stations TSN & Sportsnet.  For the Paralympic Games TV coverage will be drastically & dramatically slashed but live streams online will still be provided for most sports but once again, like in past Paralympic years, Goalball will not be one of them.

While not widely known, Goalball has proven time & time again to be one of the darlings of the Paralympic Games once people get a chance to see it. No more evidence of this fact is needed than the fact that in Sidney in 2000, Beijing in 2008 & London in 2012 Goalball matches were played in front of sold out crowds - not in tiny gymnasiums but in sporting arenas that rival the size of junior hockey arenas across Canada. We're talking thousands of people who fell in love with the game once exposed.

In 2014 the Finnish national broadcaster showed the Gold Medal Game of the World Goalball Championships on television live across the country as Finland took on Brazil.  The sport is growing and other nations are supporting their teams.  It's time for Canada & the CBC to get onboard.

We humbly request that the CBC join with movements like this across the world and begin work with the Canadian Paralympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the International Blind Sports Federation & other rights holders across the world to provide a live stream of this sport, like they will with so many other sports, on their website during the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Rights holders are the only ones who can help us make this change. Please help us show them there is a demand to see Team Canada compete for their country and to send a positive and clear message to those with disabilities of any kind that sport is inclusive and for everyone!
