It is important to note that the Food Bank is not the only organization in Calgary involved in Food Access. There are over 30 organizations in Calgary that provide Food Access programming. These organizations provide food to their clients.

There are many Food Access initiatives in Calgary deserving support, not just the Food Bank. This petition is an attempt to pivot the discussion and begin to embrace and recognize the other organizations doing important Food Access work.

This is not about taking anything away from the fine folks at the Food Bank, but rather to create awareness about the other hardworking folks and organizations involved in Food Access in Calgary.

We, the undersigned, humbly request that the Calgary Mayor's Office & the CBC begin to transition this annual event to be inclusive of other Food Access organizations. The Calgary Mayor's Office & the CBC play a very important role in helping to reframe the issue of Food Access and to bring the other players into the public light.

By providing leadership on this issue, the Calgary Mayor's Office & the CBC will contribute significantly to bringing about necessary discussion and change to the Food Access sector.

We are intimately aware of the obstacles facing Food Access organizations. They all face unique organizational challenges and we are confident that increased exposure, consideration and potential funding for their efforts will be warmly received and heralded as an important shift in our city's Food Access culture.
