Individual use of fireworks on Independence Day is a threat to public safety. There are no such things as "safe and sane" mini-bombs, as studies have shown that there is increased risk particularly in dry climates in using non-essential incendiary devices at any time.  They endanger wild and domestic animals, create noise pollution and foul our already poor air quality.

How can we justify putting our citizenry at risk for a handful of charities for a few seconds of unnecessary spectacle?  There are plenty of other ways and public places to enjoy our nation's holiday without jeopardizing our resources.

Cathedral City needs to set an example for a change and not continue to feel the scorn of our valley neighbors.  Let this be the LAST year we allow this madness.
