Reinstate former water line access for this family of five until public funding is secured to provide a permanent access solution.

The Issue

This Forestville, NY family of five has been without running water in their home for over a month. Without access to water, they are unable to bathe, flush toilets, clean, or heat their home. Military veteran Keith, and his work from home wife Krista are doing everything they can to support their three children ages 4, 8, and 16 and to provide them with a clean and healthy environment to grow and thrive in. They are financially obligated to this property and unable to move elsewhere. All they are asking for is the basic access to water that existed when they bought the home and they have done everything THEY can to secure it...now they need OUR help! Please sign this petition and share it with your friends and families so Krista and Keith can have the basic access to water that most of us take for granted every day in this country!

Backstory:

Krista and Keith live in the village of Forestville, NY.  The house they bought in December 2010 had a septic system and public water until January 2014 when the village notified them, along with 25 other homes, that access would be cut off due to the need for water line maintenance and repair that the village no longer deemed financially feasible even though her family was literally just feet from the village line. The family secured a grant to cover the cost of digging wells to replace the original water source. Some of the families were able to get working wells, but many of the families have had issues with the water that these wells have produced.   After three failed wells, Krista and Keith’s family are still without water!

It has been over 30 days and the temperature in Forestville has dipped below the freezing mark more than once already and the threat of snow looms closer every day. The health department has been involved and spoke to a Forestville village official to ask for relief for this family but the village official has now refused to help anymore and shifted the responsibility to the town of Hanover. Krista attended a Town of Hanover Board meeting on October 27, 2014 where they have pledged to try to help in any way but also promising no guarantees and no quick fixes.  Politics need to be set aside and human decency needs to prevail.  This family needs water NOW!

We need to unite our voices and demand that this family RECEIVES WATER NOW!  If they simply reinstate the former water line access until another solution is found, this family will have immediate relief and be able to heat their home this winter.  No family should have to go through what this family is going through.  Please sign this petition and share it with others. Together, we CAN make a difference!

Even though this a local government issue, and not under New York State jurisdiction, my office has been in frequent contact with the Miller family to provide as much support as possible to resolve the issue. I will continue to work with the Miller family and local government to find a solution. I deeply appreciate the concern expressed by so many people locally and across our country.
