As cases of Covid-19 rise across the country due to the Omicron surge, it is completely understandable that universities will require more resources dedicated to quarantining students who test positive in the interest of protecting their campus community. However, for reasons that have not been released to Delta Gamma or the student body at large, CWRU's answer to this need has been to kick out active residents of the Delta Gamma house in order to use the building as quarantine housing. DG has been given only a week's notice of this action, no voice in the decision, and we have not been informed as to why several alternative options for the university are not being implemented before displacing us as a sorority family. For example, in previous semesters, CWRU has outsourced quarantine housing to hotels in the area, providing safe and secluded rooms for positive members of campus. DG has not been informed of why these options were not implemented or considered prior to our expulsion from our home. In addition, Covid-19 cases were at a record low at the time we left campus, suggesting that adding additional quarantine housing on top of the continued use of hotel space and use of other residences the university has alluded to using this semester would likely be unnecessary at this point in time.

This decision and its lack of representation of DG executives is a complete breach of contract and should not be tolerated by anyone who calls CWRU home. This action will not only indefinitely displace 19 members of the campus community, it will prevent the bonding experience that sharing a living environment creates for members of Greeks Life. The House is a site of chapter meetings, executive meetings, private ritual preparation, storage of confidential records, philanthropy events, and is the epicenter for all of the best parts of Greek Life. To rip this away from us and to separate us as a family is absolutely unacceptable.
