To The WA Government and Civil Aviation Safety Authority,

I am calling on the WA government and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to allow drone enthusiasts to fly in locations that are safe, and not restrict places that do not need these measures.  

Please allow us to fly when we are in unused airspace and not restrict large areas that drones are not causing danger in. 

Our beautiful part of the world in Mandurah and Perth is restricted largely to drone flight. This means barely any creators are free to capture and enjoy our land from the sky.

Most of the restricted space is unused and restricted for no reason. For example:

The swan river of Perth, WA, Is a no-fly zone,

The Mandurah Estuary is mostly a no-fly zone,

Matagurup Bridge is a no-fly zone!

So many amazing locations, all waiting to be captured, but they are illegal to fly in!

WA land should be documented for its beauty and textures that shine the most when viewed from the sky. Currently, we barely have any legal spots to film in our area of Mandurah and Perth. As visible in the image above, a large amount of our land is covered by orange or red, this means that area is either restricted or illegal. This needs to change, too much of the orange space does not need to be restricted and is covering beautiful landmarks or locations that would be perfect drone content. 

The increase in drone restrictions has grown exponentially in recent years, I believe this is contradictory to the Increase in drone safety. Drone laws should be eased and not increased, most new drones have obstacle avoidance, RTH (Return to Home) and self-piloting. The safety concerns surrounding poor piloting skills are lesser for people who understand the technology that is being used. The drone laws and restrictions are not needed as much nowadays due to the fact that poor piloting is not usually the cause of an incident and is not at the fault of the pilot.

I am calling on the WA government and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, don’t stop our beautiful land from being captured by the artists in our community.
