Cartoon Network India: Please bring back the shows from the '90s!
The Issue
If you were a kid from the ’90s, then this is certainly going to bring back some fond memories of when you used to either rush back from school or miss out on completing your home-work just to catch your favourite cartoon show on probably the only channel (then) that had some great animated content in the country.
Cartoon Network was like our playmate in the most joyous days of our childhood; be it Tom chasing Jerry around all day long, only to team up once in a while to teach the ferocious Spike a lesson or two, or Popeye going up against his arch nemesis Bluto to save his girlfriend Olive Oyl from all kinds of trouble; the animation style, voices, storytelling, narrations, and just about any other technical detail one can think of was brilliantly blended into these popular shows and characters.
It’s not that the shows currently on air are not suitable for kids, or not striking a chord; on the contrary the kind of content that is consumed by kids nowadays is simply mindboggling given the kind of exposure they are getting to various kinds and styles of animation. They are consuming a lot of anime content with shows like: Shinchan, Doraemon, Ninja Hattori and many more, they are also being exposed to a lot of home grown content with: Chhota Bheem, Motu Patlu, Arjun, Mighty Raju, Pakdam Pakdai and the number is growing exponentially.
And the biggest boost for the animation space is the growth in the sheer number of channels now dedicated for kids in the country. But, all said and done, the shows from the ’90s era (being a member myself) have left us with some endearing memories, which given a chance we would all love to revisit! So if the makers of these epic shows are reading this somewhere, do give it a thought of bringing them back on television sets, and rest assured you will have a very loyal audience singing praises and showering lots of love!
