I volunteered with the local shelter in Carteret County for many years and witnessed first hand the condition of the dogs in the first case. In 2017, 3 dogs were seized by animal control and their owner was charged with animal cruelty. Rosa had a tumor that drug the floor and was humanely euthanized. Duke was riddled with tumors and had to sit there for months until the court case was resolved.  He was humanely euthanized. Sweet Emmie was just a baby and had severe skin issues. The owner got probation and sweet Emmie was returned��. Welfare checks were suppose to be done. Now in 2021, he is being charged again. 22 dogs were confiscated by the sheriff’s department. Sweet Emmie being one of them. She still has the same skin issues which have gotten worse because of no treatment. These dogs need us to stand up for them and fight for them to not be returned to him. He deserves more than a “slap on the wrist” this time and should never be allowed to own another animal ever again.
