Take action against all Contractors/Trades violating the Edmonton noise bylaw at the Ara Condominium construction site.
The Issue
On several repeated instances there have been extreme noise bylaw violations. Starting as early as 5am and proceeding till midnight and later. The disturbance consists of heavy machinery in use, cement pump trucks, semi-trucks at high idle, power-trowelling to finish concrete, loud noise associated with metal work, and flood lights projecting light onto surrounding residents at unacceptable hours.
The Edmonton noise bylaw clearly states;
"Construction Activity
Noise from construction work is only permitted:
Monday through Saturday - 7am-10pm
Sunday and Holidays - 9am-7pm"
http://www.edmonton.ca/bylaws_licences/bylaws/noise.aspx
as well as the Community Standards Bylaw 14600, sections 14 (1),(2), 15 (a)-(d), are also relevant.
Bylaw has been notified of each offence as they have happened and a notice to comply has been submitted to the contractor from the city. No fines have been issued yet and Carrington (the developer) has also been contacted without reply.
The long and the short of it is that this excessive disrespect for 30+ residential properties, many with young families and multiple occupants, isn't being taken seriously by the contractor, site superintendent, or developer. The noise violations keep occurring by the same offenders and my hope is to collect as many signatures as possible by all those who are affected and present it to the highest person at each business I can contact and everyone along the way.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and take action for your neighbourhood. The Ara Condos are in the early building stages currently with a floor plan of 4 stories, let's not just lie down and let our rights as citizens be trampled.
