Bring Back The Governors Trophy

The Issue

This is the opportunity for the people of Idaho to bring back a traditional event, The Governors Cup. The long standing rivalry football game between The University of Idaho and Boise State University. Bringing back this game is not just for the purposes of sport but for the good of the economy and for the people of Idaho in general. Our Universities and our Athletic programs main source of funding comes from our taxes, without that appropriated income the athletic programs could not function. The State Board of Education allows its Universities to commonly pursuit their own athletic interests without measures of accountability. Therefore we often watch as decisions are being made without the best interests of the people of Idaho in mind. The State board of Education is not an elected element of government, it is appointed by our Governor and our Legislatures. The State Board of Education signs off on every athletic decision made, especially the ones that dictate who are hired as our School Presidents and as our Athletic Directors. These very people have felt it necessary to end this rivalry game. It is more than likely that none of the decision makers resided in Idaho when the rivalry game begin or during its highs and lows. It is also more than likely that they will not reside in Idaho, when their time has ended in their current positions. Yet they still have found it necessary to end our traditions. Which is why the people of Idaho must take this back and let their bosses-bosses-boss know that we want our rivalry back. Just like in Iowa, where state law requires that Iowa State must play Iowa every year, we can do the same. So Please sign this petition to bring back this tradition.
