We want John Teuscher, Coach of the Year, back as Roosevelt High School Men's Soccer Coach
The Issue
We the alumni, parents, students, supporters, and community of North Portland want John Teuscher, 6A Coach of the Year, back as Roosevelt men's Soccer Coach. At the very least, the community deserves an explanation as to why John was let go.
John was the 6A men's soccer coach of the year for the state of Oregon where he helped lead his team of talented student athletes to the semifinals, a feat unheard of in Roosevelt history. He was congratulated by many including the Superintendent of Portland Public Schools who wrote him a personal letter. However, when he returned to the school afterwards he was rewarded by the administration by being let go.
John Teuscher has loyally served the community of North Portland for over 30 years. In that time he coached many youth sports teams, was the President of the St. John's Soccer Club, Vice President of the North Portland Junior Baseball and founder of the St. John's Basketball Shoot-out which benefited the youth of North Portland for over 24 years. He helped set up a non-profit organization together with two other fathers of Roosevelt High School graduates. This non-profit raised money for the new turf field and track at Roosevelt High School and John was the treasurer of the Roosevelt Booster Club that oversaw that project. Also, for 14 years he has been the business manager for the Peninsula Optimist Club, managing the annual Christmas tree lot, fireworks stands and scholarship dinner. These volunteer activities have provided over 250,000.00 dollars back to organizations in the North Portland Community.
The community finds this decision very confusing and misguided. Please bring John back or provide us with a reasonable explanation as to why this helps to move the community and school in a positive direction.
I encourage anyone who feels inclined to contact the administration and comment here why you think John should be reinstated or how John has positively impacted you or the community. Below I have identified the key decision makers who represent the Portland Public School administration.
