Many people, including myself, have experienced sexual assault in some form or another at Carmel High School.

CHS is one of the many schools that needs to change its entire curriculum on sexual assault and education. It is outdated, pathetic, and simply not enough. 

CHS needs to start teaching its students about how to treat others. There needs to be classes and assembly’s where sexual assault is talked about in DEPTH. Sex education classes need to be longer than a week long health class. 

An environment needs to be created where people feel safe to talk to others about their trauma and experiences. Where they are understood, empathized with, and comforted. 

CHS needs to make a statement addressing the fact that many students feel shunned away from faculty when they should feel solidarity. That many students that feel shunned away from their peers, when they should feel solidarity. 

What are we going to do about kids that dread coming to school every day, in fear for being called names? Do we sweep them under the carpet, and shut them out? Or do we let them know they are heard, they are loved, and that they are safe.
