The City of Carmel's fireworks ordinance presently permits fireworks between 5:00 pm and two hours after sundown on the following days:  June 29, 30 and July 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

The Federal 4th of July Holiday is on July 4th, or if occurring on the weekend, on the Friday before.

All Americans should enjoy the right to celebrate the Fourth of July by recreation of "the rocket's red glare" through the use of fireworks, both on the Fourth and on the holiday weekend following or preceding the Fourth, whichever is closer to the day of the holiday.

However, presently Carmel's fireworks ordinance permits the use of fireworks for twelve days, no matter when the holiday falls.

Fireworks are traumatic to America's veterans suffering from PTSD, to small children, and to our four-legged family members.

The use of fireworks, other than on the Fourth of July and the Fourth of July weekend, are not a celebration of America's independence. They are an act of self-satisfaction at the detriment of our neighbors.

The Petitioner's respectfully request that the Carmel City Council consider, and act to, limit the use of fireworks celebrating the Fourth of July to that date and the weekend (Friday and Saturday) closest to the Fourth in that calendar year.
