There is a Planning Application before the County Council for an Inert Waste Processing Plant within the disused Cilyrychen Quarry, on the border of the village of Llandybie.

If it goes ahead, skip lorries will bring building rubble to the site for processing by a massive crusher between 9am and 6pm 6 days every week Sunday too for a few hours - so no days off!  The crushed material will be taken away in large tippers.  The trucks will drive through Llandybie including over the school crossing.  The application acknowledges that the plant will create both noise and dust. They propose countermeasures which we fear will be inadequate given the nature of the industrial works planned.

Since quarrying was stopped, Cilyrychen Quarry has become naturalised and is a haven for wildlife as well as a recreational resource for local residents.  Many walkers use the Public Rights of Way in the fields above the quarry.  Our quarry is now home to a nesting pair of Peregrine Falcons and several species of bat have been seen there as well as a wide variety of other wildlife.  Dormice live nearby in the Special Area of Conservation beside the quarry.

The planning department meeting is on 19th August.
