We are a group of university students, who have to devise a performance about any political topic we want. Given the nudes and social media culture, we began looking into revenge porn. A .gov website defines this as 'the sharing of private, sexual materials, either photos or videos, of another person without their consent and with the purpose of causing embarrassment or distress. The images are sometimes accompanied by personal information about the subject, including their full name, address and links to their social media problems.' . Looking back on our own childhoods, we know that sharing of sexual images is on the rise, and are disgusted by the topic. When we began researching into these websites, one kept popping up, 'myex.com'. The content on this website is horrific, not only do users post the location and name of their ex partners (which can be used to search with) but there are hundreds of horrific comments about these people. Currently, to share sexual images of people is illegal. However, the websites themselves are legal. If people are going to carry on sharing and taking sexual photos, then we need to take further action and make the websites themselves illegal. Awareness needs to be raised about these websites, as new posts are being made daily, and many men and women are being made to feel shamed about themselves, causing personal misery. Many have become mentally ill due to the stress, and their families are devastated by the effects of their children having nude images online. The first step of making the sharing is illegal, but some people do not care about this, so the websites themselves need to be taken down. Websites like 'myex.com' are too easy for anyone to view and be used. This needs to stop.
