Please join me in asking the Knights of Columbus to change their name. Though the Knights of Columbus have been and continue to be a great source of help, beacon of light and a wonderful service organization in some ways...the name needs to go.  Yes, many people around the world benefit greatly from their charitable activities, sadly, their name glorifies Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus is a symbol to many people now living of the subjugation and mistreatment of Native Peoples. Though many of the atrocities committed against these Native Peoples were not done by the hands of Christopher Columbus himself (many were) and he is a symbol of enslavement, cruelty and imperialistic conquest of the Americas and, therefore, should not be further glorified.  Such a great organization as the Knights of Columbus should no longer bear the name of this dubious character of history but should choose a name more fitting to their mission to be noble men of character.  I am a Knight myself and I think it's time for a change.  It is an act of charity to our brothers and sisters whom Columbus offends to remove him from the pedestal.
